Work shop to the Schools

Introduction:

Education is the basic right and most important for a nation’s development. Schools are the basic education centre for nurturing the future seeds of a nation. When Tibetans came to exile the first thing that His Holiness the Dalai Lama undertook was to establish schools for Tibetan children in order to educate them. Today there are around a hundred well functioning Tibetan schools in India. Conflict Resolution is a part of the school curriculum in many other countries apart from India. This has proved beneficial to maintain a more peaceful school environment and helpful for society. Therefore the Tibetan Centre for Conflict Resolution decided to introduce the concept of conflict resolution tools and peace building to many Tibetan schools for both Teachers and students.

Aims:

To introduce the skills of conflict Resolution to Teachers and students to have better relations and understanding and help in the teaching and learning process. To encourage them in applying the tools and skills in their daily lives. To generate self confidence among the students for achieving success in life.

Experiences:

The Centre has organized workshops for both the teachers and students of many Tibetan schools on conflict resolution tools and skills. This has been proved beneficial and helpful for many schools from different aspects. Not only that, the Centre had made efforts to introduce the basic concepts of conflict resolution as a part of the school curriculum in the Tibetan schools. The activities were appreciated by the Head of the schools and we were invited for further carrying out such programmes in their schools. In the process we got the opportunity to enhance our knowledge and experience by conducting workshops for different age groups. We plan to extend our works and activities for the benefit of more schools in the future.

"It is important to recognise that if conflicts are created by misuse of human intelligence, we can also utilise our intelligence to find ways and means to overcome these conflicts."
